Afghan radio station on verge of falling silent under Taliban rule after cutting shows, staff

Afghanistan’s once-vibrant radio station Urooj appears to be on the brink of closure months after the Taliban took over the country. Station head Ebrahim Parhar said he has received threatening letters from the Taliban and had to dismiss his entire staff since the militants seized power in mid-August. Urooj radio’s former journalists said they no longer feel safe to report and the station finances are under pressure after vital contracts and advertisements were cancelled.
