Africa Weekly: Face-off of Africa's top football teams after Cup of Nations draw
AFP, 20 Aug 2021
Algeria will face Ivory Coast, and Egypt will be up against Nigeria in next year's Africa Cup of Nations following this week's draw in Cameroon. Preparations are ongoing and there are some mixed feelings over the benefits the tournament will bring to the host nation. Zambia's long-time opposition leader and self-made millionaire Hakainde Hichilema beat the incumbent Edgar Lungu in general elections, leading up to a change of power that is still unusual in most parts of Africa. An Ebola vaccination campaign is underway in Ivory Coast, after the country recorded its first case of the disease since 1994. Meanwhile, in Guinea, the World Health Organization is concerned over a potential outbreak of the Marburg virus - a cousin of Ebola - after one fatal case. Lastly, we head to Cape Town, one of many cities around the world whose inhabitants live with the threat of rising sea levels.
