Africa Weekly: Thousands rally in Sudan against reinstated military-civilian government

In Afria this week, thousands of Sudanese protesters rally against last month's military power grab, rejecting an agreement struck between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok which reinstated the joint military-civilian transitional government; a jihadist attack on a base in northern Burkina Faso leaves at least 57 dead, highlighting glaring failures by the security forces to protect themselves; hundreds of new recruits take part in a ceremony held in their honour in the capital, as Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed reportedly joins the front line where government forces are battling rebels from the Tigray region; Libya's electoral commission announces its rejection of the candidacy of Seif al-Islam Kadhafi, son of slain dictator Moamer Kadhafi, to run in next month's presidential election; and in South Africa, anti-apartheid legend Nelson Mandela's former home in Johannesburg has been transformed into a boutique hotel.
