Alberta health officials update COVID-19 as Phase 2A of vaccine rollout begins | FULL
CA, 16 Mar 2021
Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw updated COVID-19 in the province on Monday.
Hinshaw’s update comes as Alberta rolls out Phase 2A of the province’s COVID-19 vaccination program.
Phase 2A targets Albertans born between 1947 and 1956 and First Nations, Inuit and Métis born in 1971 or earlier.
Only Albertans born in 1947 or earlier — or First Nations, Métis and Inuit people born in 1962 or earlier – can begin booking their appointments through AHS on Monday.
Appointments are supposed to be accessible online through Alberta Health Services’ booking tool on the AHS.ca website or by calling 811.
Alberta Health Services said Monday its online booking system for COVID-19 vaccines was experiencing “intermittent issues” as the province began Phase 2A of its immunization rollout.
Just seven minutes before online booking was set to begin, AHS tweeted that its immunization booking tool launch was being delayed.
“We are working to resolve the issued quickly,” AHS tweeted shortly before 8 a.m.
Just after 10 a.m., AHS said the online tool was live but experiencing high traffic volumes.
