9/11 anniversary: Former VP Joe Biden says United 93 passengers' actions "stunned" him | FULL SPEECH

CA, 12 Sep 2020
Former U.S. vice-president Joe Biden on Friday spoke about the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 during the Sept. 11 terror attacks, saying the actions of the passengers and crew on the flight "stunned me," after they attempted to regain control of the plane from Al-Qaeda hijackers and prevented it from reaching what is believed to be its intended target of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.

"It's hard to underestimate the willingness of decent people to literally lay down their lives," Biden told those in attendance. "When you think about what happened, it's one thing to react when you're in a situation where you're confronted with something you have to act immediately. It's something you consciously know that what you're about to do is likely to cost you your life. That is an incredible, incredible thing."

Biden says the actions still "astound" him, adding that what happened Sept. 11 and the days that followed show the U.S. is a country that "never gives up."

A total of 2,977 people died as a result of the attacks, not including the Al-Qaeda members, with 40 people on board the United 93 flight.
