Hong Kong’s national security police cited more than 30 Apple Daily articles that called for sanctions against the city and mainland China as justification for arresting the tabloid-style newspaper’s editor-in-chief, publisher and three other executives on June 17, 2021. Police said the publication of such articles was evidence of a conspiracy to collude with foreign forces in violation of the national security law that was imposed on the city by Beijing in August 2020.
