Dozens of people were killed when a train with 488 passengers on board derailed in Taiwan on April 2, 2021. The train was travelling from Shulin, New Taipei to Taitung in southeastern Taiwan, when its second and third carriages came off the rails in a tunnel, Taiwan's Central News Agency reported, citing the island's Railway Police Bureau (RPI). At least 48 people died and 66 others were injured in the collision with a runaway truck.
