Australian MP wears bin bag in response to sexist remarks made about her

Telegraph, 27 Jul 2020
An Australian MP has worn a bin bag in response to “sexist garbage” spoken about her.

Liberal MP Nicolle Flint took to twitter to reveal the new outfit choice in response to an article in The Advertiser in Adelaide, South Australia which criticised her appearance.

She begins the video recalling the things she has had to put up with “as a woman in politics”, including police “charging a creepy old man with stalking me” and having her campaign office vandalised with slurs.

In the video Ms Flint directly addresses ABC columnist and broadcaster Peter Goers, who recently condemned her appearance.

“Mr Goers criticised the way I look” says Ms Flint, “He criticised the fact that I wear stiletto heels, tight black pants that show by ankles, my pearl earrings and he criticised my pearly smile.

“He also criticised me for wearing a range of coloured jackets”.

At the end of the video Ms Flint unveils her bin bag dress asking Mr Goers “What should a woman in politics wear?

“How about a garbage bag to match your rubbish views?”
