B.C. faces a pier fire, a train derailment, and a gondola cable cut by vandals

What is the saying about bad news coming in threes? British Columbia may know something about that as they deal with the aftermath of a pier fire, a train derailment, and a second major act of vandalism at a popular tourist attraction.
The mayor of New Westminster, B.C., has vowed to rebuild after a massive, four-alarm fire destroyed a section of Westminster Pier Park on Sunday night. Fire crews say they were called to a brush fire on Front Street near the SkyTrain bridge around 8 p.m. Flames spread quickly with nearly the entire pier engulfed in flames.
Crews believe the old portion of the pier is destroyed.
CN Rail said it estimates that about 60 cars went off the tracks on a bridge near Hunter Creek, just west of Hope. Preliminary information suggests the cars went off the bridge and crashed down below, with some ending up in a waterway.
The railcars were carrying potash, which is primarily used as a fertilizer, the company said. No injuries were reported.
Plus, the Sea to Sky Gondola cable has been cut for a second time. Dozens of cars have come crashing down after the cable was cut early Monday morning. No injuries were reported.
Squamish RCMP said they were contacted at 4 a.m. by the security team at the gondola saying the line had been cut and cars had crashed into the mountain.
