BC floods: Mayor of Abbotsford provides update on city's recovery operations | LIVE

CA, 22 Nov 2021
Abbotsford, B.C. Mayor Henry Braun is expected to provide an update on the city's ongoing recovery operations after it was hit with major flooding over the last week.

Floodgates have partially opened at the Barrowtown Pump Station on Saturday and started releasing water from the Sumas River to the Fraser River.

The mayor said that was “good news” as flow breaching the Sumas River dike has lessened.

Officials hope that water levels will continue to decrease so the flood gates can remain open, and potentially, open fully.

The city remains under a state of local emergency, with massive flooding in the Sumas Prairie agricultural area.
