Overturned ships and piles of debris and grain were seen at Beirut's port on Saturday, days after a massive warehouse explosion ripped through the site, smashing a swathe of the city.

Journalists were accompanied by members of Lebanon's armed forces as they took a boat tour around the port to witness the devastation caused by the most powerful explosion in the city's history.

Workers also continued an operation to clear vast amounts of debris from the port.

Over 150 people were killed and 5,000 injured after a warehouse containing 2,750 tonnes of highly explosive ammonium nitrate blew up on August 4.
