Biden admin to continue COVID-19 vaccine push as CDC alters mask guidance

CA, 28 Jul 2021
White House press secretary Jen Psaki defended previous pushes by the Biden administration to either get vaccinated for COVID-19 or wear a mask and said they would continue to stress for Americans to get a dose. The comments come as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will announce guidance recommending people to wear masks indoors at least in some circumstances, even if they are fully vaccinated, due to the spread of the Delta variant.

Asked what the White House's message to people feeling "whiplash" to now be told to wear a mask even if fully vaccinated and whether they can still trust health officials who just two months ago said masks weren't needed anymore, Psaki said "our goal is to save their lives."

"Our message to the American public is, we're at war, we continue to be at war with a virus, an evolving pandemic," she said. "Our responsibility here is to always lead with the science."
