Biden, Harris speak on racial injustice, protecting the right to vote, at MLK memorial anniversary

CA, 22 Oct 2021
U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris attended an event to observe the 10th anniversary of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.

Harris delivered remarks on protecting the right to vote while Biden hailed his administration’s actions towards addressing racial injustice and economic injustice in the country.

“As we remember his life and celebrate the anniversary of this beautiful memorial, let us be guided by those same connections he made as they exist today, racial injustice today is inextricably linked to economic injustice,” Harris said.

Biden said his administration is taking steps towards addressing racial injustice by investing in Black families with tax cuts and rescue checks and reducing poverty rates by 34 per cent.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial celebrated a decade at the National Mall in D.C. with a special ceremony attended by leaders from across the country, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and both the president and the vice president.
