Biden provides update on response to Hurricane Henri, Afghanistan evacuations | LIVE

CA, 23 Aug 2021
U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to provide an update on his administration's response to Hurricane Henri, which is set to hit parts of the northeast, as well as give more information on the ongoing effort to evacuate American applicants, SIV applicants and their families, and vulnerable Afghans from Afghanistan.

Parts of the U.S. Northeast began to feel the effects of Henri late Saturday, with the storm expected to remain at or near hurricane strength when it makes landfall Sunday afternoon. The National Hurricane Center said landfall could be on New York's Long Island or in southern New England. It is also possible to have some impact to Atlantic Canada.

Meanwhile in Afghanistan, a panicked rush of people trying to enter Kabul's international airport resulted in the deaths of seven Afghan civilians in the crowds, according to the British military on Sunday. It is a clear example of the danger still posed to those trying to flee the Taliban's takeover of the country.
