A 114 metre-long (375-foot-long) mural spelling out "Black Lives Matter" in big yellow letters was unveiled on Sunday in Brooklyn, New York City.
Spanning an entire block on Fulton Street between Marcy and Brooklyn avenues, the artwork was painted in less than 24 hours by more than twenty Brooklyn-based artists and local volunteers. At the inauguration ceremony on Sunday morning, Councilman Robert Cornegy announced he would seek to create a pedestrian plaza on the painted stretch of Fulton Street.
The Brooklyn mural was inspired by the similar one done near the White House in Washington DC last week and is part of the anti-racism protests that have been taking place in the US and around the world since the death of 46-year-old George Floyd during his arrest in Minneapolis on May 25.
