The Prime Minister has said he has spoken to the Queen and says she is "on very good form", despite Her Majesty being advised by doctors to rest for a further two weeks.

Boris Johnson said the entire country "wishes her well" after it emerged the Monarch has had to cancel a string of engagements, including an event linked to Remembrance Sunday, in what is the most significant absence of her reign.

Mr Johnson, who is in Rome attending the G20 summit, told Channel 4 news on Saturday: "I spoke to her Majesty and she’s on very good form."

He said: "She’s just got to follow the advice of her doctors and get some rest and I think that’s the important thing. I think the whole country wishes her well.''

The Prime Minister spoke to the Monarch on Wednesday as part of their regular weekly audience.

Buckingham Palace subsequently announced on Friday that the Queen, who has been having tests for an unknown illness, will not undertake any official visits in public and will be confined to desk-based duties only.

She is to miss the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday Nov 13, but has the "firm intention" to be present to watch the annual wreath-laying on Remembrance Sunday.

The statement released by the Palace confirmed that the Queen's doctors want her to rest for at least two more weeks.
