Nobel Peace Prize winner John Hume who was once described by former US President Bill Clinton as "the Martin Luther King of Northern Ireland", has died.

The former SDLP leader is credited with persuading the British and Irish governments that the gun could be taken out of Irish politics which paved the way for the signing of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement and power-sharing government at Stormont.
