California wildfires: Flames from Bobcat fire threaten historic observatory

CA, 23 Sep 2020
Flames from the Bobcat fire in Los Angeles County, Calif., came dangerously close to the historic Mount Wilson Observatory on Tuesday, with firefighters being deployed to help defend the building.

At more than 105,000 acres, the fire is one of the largest ever in Los Angeles County.

Officials have issued additional evacuation orders and warnings for thousands of residents in areas in the potential path of the fire.

However, they say erratic winds have died down and temperatures have dropped, which should help in the battle against the blaze.

Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
