Canada election: Majority don’t want to head to the polls during COVID-19 pandemic, survey finds
CA, 13 Sep 2021
An Ipsos Poll released on Monday has found the majority of Canadians, 71 per cent, are concerned about the fourth wave of COVID-19. The survey found 81 per cent are concerned a fourth wave driven by the Delta variant could delay a return to normal. That is an increase of seven per cent from July.
The poll also found, however, that 37 per cent of those surveyed believe people concerned about a strong COVID-19 fourth wave are overreacting.
“What this is showing is that Canadians are afraid of what is going to happen, but they also have an adjusted set of sentiments about COVID, in the sense that they think we need to be doing more to learn how to live with it," says Darrell Bricker, CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs.
Sixty-eight per cent of respondents said Canada shouldn’t be holding an election during a pandemic, the poll found. That’s up 10 per cent since the last polling in August.
