Canadian ministers and health officials are expected to provide an update Friday on the country's COVID-19 vaccine rollout progress.
Canada's deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo said Thursday that Canadians could potentially receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine sooner than expected, as millions more doses continue to be delivered across the country.
Canada had given at least one dose to 18.1 million people, or about 47.6 per cent of the population, tying the U.S. in the number of first doses administered to the public. Canada's vaccine rate is expected to surpass the U.S. this week.
Globally, Canada now sits in the top 15 among countries for the share of the population with at least one dose of vaccine.
