Canadian officials make announcement on improving access to abortion | LIVE

CA, 11 May 2022
Canada’s Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos and Minister for Women, Gender Equality and Youth Marci Ien are expected to hold a news conference in Ottawa on Wednesday to make an announcement on improving access to abortion.

As the United States faces turmoil over the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade, an online poll by Leger and the Association for Canadian Studies showed that approximately four in five respondents said they are in favour of a woman’s right to an abortion if she so chooses.

Seventy per cent of all respondents said they were concerned about the leaked plan to overturn Roe v. Wade, and almost half said they think the situation in the U.S. on the right to an abortion may have an effect in Canada.

There will be a media availability immediately following the announcement.
