Canadian officials provide COVID-19 update as non-essential travel advisory lifted | FULL

CA, 22 Oct 2021
Canadian officials are expected to provide an update Friday on the country's ongoing COVID-19 situation and vaccine rollout.

The update comes as the federal government on Thursday quietly lifted its advisory against all non-essential travel abroad that was introduced in March 2020 — as long as those travellers are fully vaccinated. The travel advisory for cruise ships remains.

The advisory was lifted the same day Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled Canada’s international proof of vaccination system, which will show your name, date of birth, and COVID-19 vaccine history — including which doses you got, and when you got them.

National data also shows that COVID-19 infections are continuing to fall across most of Canada despite fears of a surge in cases following the Thanksgiving long weekend.
