Since the COVID pandemic, Italy's population - the world’s second-oldest - has dropped by nearly 400,000.
A high death rate in the pandemic combined with a historically low birth rate to shrink the population.
Postponing a family is common in Italy and births have been declining since the 2008 crisis.
The government is offering cash benefits to families having more children to help reverse the trend.
