Beijing’s crackdown on what it sees as an epidemic of video game addiction reached a new level this week as mainland Chinese officials are said to have temporarily slowed down all approvals of new online games for an unspecified amount of time. According to sources who spoke with the South China Morning Post, the temporary slow down of new game approvals was announced at a meeting between government officials and gamemakers this week. It’s the latest move targeting the gaming industry after mainland officials instituted a three-hour-per-week limit on underage gamers.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that new game approvals in China had been suspended. The story has since been updated to state that regulators are slowing the approval process.
