Conservative Party Leader Erin O’Toole responded on Monday to China's claim that the first Omicron variant case in Beijing came from mail sent from Canada.

O’Toole said it was “comical,” adding that such stories are a reminder that some of the news and reporting out of China since the beginning of the pandemic “could not be trusted.”

Canadian Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos also called the allegation “extraordinary” but said experts within the Public Health Agency of Canada would investigate the claim.

Beijing reported its first case of the Omicron on Saturday.
