Daqin island in China’s eastern province of Shandong is expecting a huge sales windfall because of growth in the prices offered for the ocean plant. A local official said the region long known as "kelp island" stands to earn over 200 million yuan (US$31 million) this year, adding that Daqin supplies up to 90 per cent of China’s exported kelp.
