Colonial Pipeline CEO testifies about cyberattack at Senate hearing
CBS, 08 Jun 2021
The CEO and president of Colonial Pipeline, Joseph Blount, is testifying at a Senate homeland security committee hearing about the ransomware attack on the company in May. The cyberattack prompted the shutdown of the pipeline system and gas shortages across the southeastern U.S.
Colonial Pipeline paid a ransom worth roughly $4.3 million in bitcoin to the Russia-based hacking group known as DarkSide, which had used malicious software to hold the company hostage. The federal government has recovered a portion of the money that Colonial Pipeline paid, the Department of Justice announced Monday.
