Coming up: Conservative Party announces candidates for next Prime Minister
Telegraph, 24 Oct 2022
The 1922 Committee of backbench MPs is set to announce the candidates for the UK's next Prime Minister.
It is now a two-horse race between Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt after former Prime Minister Boris Johnson withdrew from the leadership contest on Sunday evening.
Penny Mordaunt's Tory leadership campaign team has claimed to have secured the backing of more than 90 Conservative MPs - a number which would put her within touching distance of making it onto the final ballot.
Rishi Sunak, on the other hand, has now secured the backing of more than half of Tory MPs. The former chancellor is now at 179 backers.
