Alberta's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported 158 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, an increase from the 143 seen just a day prior. She said there also has been one additional death - a patient at Foothills Medical Centre, which is currently seeing a coronavirus outbreak.

During the briefing, Hinshaw also provided advice on how people can celebrate Thanksgiving safely as cases rise. She said this should include keeping gatherings within established cohorts of up to 15 people outside your households and remembering that "smaller is safer." When shopping for Thanksgiving dinner, observe social distancing and mask requirements, and wash or sanitize your hands often. She also advised one person plate everyone's meals to avoid the sharing of utensils or have pre-portioned servings, have people bring their own food or even order take-out.

Hinshaw also spoke about school-related cases, saying there were active alerts or outbreaks in 97 schools, with 163 active cases. The province's top doctor advised, however, that since school started they have seen a week-over-week decrease in terms of cases among school-aged children, defined as those between five and 19 years.
