Coronavirus: B.C. officials unveil return-to-school plan for September

CA, 30 Jul 2020
The B.C. government announced a full return to school for Kindergarten to Grade 12 on Wednesday, as students in the province are set to return to the classroom in September.

On the advice of the provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, students will be organized into learning groups, a consistent group of staff and students. This will reduce the number of people each student or staff member will come into contact with, reducing the risk of transmission and ensuring quicker contact tracing by health authorities.

Students returned to the classroom in June on a part-time, voluntary basis.

School districts will be responsible for implementing the additional safety measures required to operate schools safely as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

The province is committing $45.6 million as part of the B.C. COVID-19 Action Plan, which will support school districts and independent schools for the start of the school year.
