Coronavirus: BC extends ban on social gatherings until Jan. 8, restricting holiday events | FULL

CA, 08 Dec 2020
BC recorded 2,020 new cases of COVID-19 in the province over three days along with 35 deaths.

There were 647 COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths from Friday to Saturday, while 726 cases and 10 deaths were reported from Saturday to Sunday. The province reported 647 cases from Sunday to Monday along with seven deaths, marking the first time in two weeks that BC didn’t record a daily death toll in double digits. The 35 fatalities bring the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 527.

BC health officials have also extended a widespread ban on social gatherings with anyone outside of one’s immediate household through the holiday season until midnight on Jan. 8, 2021.

On Monday, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry also extended the requirement to wear masks in indoor public spaces and the ban on adult indoor and outdoor team sports until the same date.

This means British Columbians will not be able to get together with anyone they don’t already live with — not even in parks, backyards or restaurants — to celebrate the holidays.
