U.S. Democratic presidential nominee and former vice-president Joe Biden on Thursday called on Americans, no matter what political affiliation they belong to, to wear a mask when they're outside for the next three months at a minimum to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, adding every governor should mandate mask wearing.

Biden said, based on a meeting he had that day with several health experts, that if every American would wear a mask, they'd save more than 40,000 lives in the next three months. He also said doing so would help get kids back to school "sooner and safer."

Vice-presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris, following Biden's comments, said that should they be elected into office, they would create a pandemic testing board to get tens of millions of COVID-19 testing kits where they're needed. She also said they'd hire at least 100,000 Americans to lead the country through contact tracing, and would "chart a clear path forward" to a safe and effective virus vaccine.
