Canadian health officials provided an update on COVID-19 and the country's response on Tuesday.
Canada's chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam discussed on Friday the challenges Canadians will be facing during the fall and winter seasons ahead of Labour Day long weekend that marks the official end of summer in Canada.
"Canada faces a different COVID- 19 situation in September than it did in February and March," she said.
Dr. Tam said individuals need to ask themselves serious questions on the risk they're taking and the risk they might be exposing others to when making decisions on attending indoor events.
She urged people to carefully evaluate whether it's safe to gather together indoors and the consequences of those gathering as the country head into the fall and winter.
A total of 131,895 cases of COVID-19 have been reported as of Monday, including 9,145 deaths.
In the last week, 3,955 people tested positive across Canada, and 28 people died. That compares to 3,044 positive tests and 44 deaths in the week prior.
