Canadian health officials provided an update on the recent COVID-19 cases and the government's ongoing response to the pandemic on Friday.

Canada has seen an increase in daily cases in recent weeks as more regions join the reopening process, to a total of 112,638 cases and over 8,000 deaths nationally.

Deputy Chief Public Health Office of Canada Dr. Howard Njoo has said that the vast majority of the increase in the proportion of cases is among young adults.

The briefing comes as the national COVID-19 tracing app is beginning beta testing after a delay, with the Canadian Digital Service, an agency that puts federal services online, is asking people to sign up and put the app through its paces over two to four days.
