Coronavirus: Conservative, Bloc and NDP leaders respond to Trudeau's national address

CA, 24 Sep 2020
Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh and Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-François Blanchet responded to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's address to the nation on Wednesday, each stressing the need to continue to take steps to prevent COVID-19, while criticizing the government's own coronavirus response.

O'Toole said under Trudeau, Canada has “never been more divided.” He said he’s urged Trudeau to provide help for small businesses impacted by COVId-19, ensure faster and better access to testing options and to work on ongoing western alienation.

Singh said COVID-19 has exposed problems facing Canadians, but that the issues existed before the pandemic but were not addressed. He urged Trudeau that action needs to be made now on issues like pharmacare and dental care, adding they will continue to fight for Canadians to get things done.

Accusing the federal government of trampling on a matter of Quebec sovereignty, Blanchet called matters of healthcare Quebec's "exclusive responsibility," and said Trudeau has ignored pleas from Quebec and elsewhere to increase transfer payments to the provinces address rising healthcare costs.
