Coronavirus: Conservative MPs grill Liberals on delays in rapid COVID-19 testing availability

CA, 30 Sep 2020
On Tuesday Conservative MP Michelle Rempel demanded to know when rapid COVID-19 tests would be available to Canadians after the Canadian government announced a new agreement had been reached to supply up to 7.9 million rapid point-of-care tests earlier on Tuesday.

Public Services and Procurement Minister Anita Anand said the test is not an antigen test, but the instruments used to analyze it can be run outside of a major lab, allowing for rapid results at a clinic or hospital.

Health Minister Patty Hajdu touted the new agreement during Question Period, but Rempel demanded to know exactly when those tests would be “in the hands of Canadians.”

She said other countries already have access to rapid testing.
