Federal ministers and Canadian health officials provided on Friday an update the country's ongoing response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Newly confirmed COVID-19 cases reported by the province brought the national total to over 109,000 cases and more than 8,800 deaths as of Thursday. Over 72,000 people have recovered, which is more than 70 per cent of confirmed cases.

More than 3.5 million people have been tested for COVID-19, which is the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
