Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Friday that his government would invest $2 million in the Bracebridge-based company Smart Safe Science to produce a “lighter, breathable, medical-grade” face mask.

He said the money would allow them expand their facilities and ramp up production to 200,000 masks a month.

The premier made the announcement Friday alongside Vic Fedeli, minister of Economic Development.

Fedeli said the high-tech masks would conform to the user’s facial structure and that it comes with technology that monitors and transmits real-time data about the “health status” of the person wearing the mask.

The premier also defended the province’s top doctor on Friday against calls for him to resign, saying he has “all the confidence in the world” in Dr. David Williams.
