Coronavirus: Global COVID-19 case count hits 100 million

The global confirmed case count of COVID-19 hit 100 million on Tuesday, just over a year since the pandemic's first infection was reported. Approximately 2.1 million people have died from the virus.

While vaccines offer a glimmer of hope, there is concerns new COVID-19 variants that are more transmissible could accelerate the pandemic.

It has prompted countries to restrict international travel and ramp up vaccines, with the U.S. saying it could vaccinate nearly all Americans by the end of summer. Sean Previl reports.
