Coronavirus: Hinshaw says Alberta has enough COVID-19 vaccine for second dose appointments | FULL

CA, 19 Jan 2021
Alberta’s chief medical officer of health believes there are enough doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to cover a second dose for anyone who received the first dose.

Speaking on Monday Dr. Deena Hinshaw addressed concerns saying “at the moment it does seem like we have enough vaccine… even with the reductions in the Pfizer supplies to be able to offer that second dose to all who booked it.”

Earlier on Monday, Premier Jason Kenney held a press conference when he announced Alberta is set to run out of its COVID-19 vaccine supply by the end of the day or early Tuesday.

Kenney said the province has so far administered nearly 90,000 doses since vaccinations began on Dec. 15. But now, a delay in Canada’s supply of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine has led to a low supply and pausing of first-dose appointments.

Hinshaw also announced Monday that the province had identified 474 new cases of COVID-19 and registered 11 deaths related to the disease.
