Coronavirus: Ontario health officials provide update on province's school screening system | FULL

CA, 02 Oct 2020
Ontario’s associate chief medical officer of health Dr. Barbara Yaffe and Chief Coroner Dr. Dirk Huyer gave an update Thursday on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and discussed the public health agency's ongoing response to the pandemic.

Yaffe provided an update on changes to the COVID-19 school screening tool, saying that it now includes two sets of questions about symptoms, and that the symptom list no longer includes abdominal pain or conjunctivitis.

She also said that the demand for COVID-19 testing "continues to remain high," and reminded the province to only get a test “if you need one.” Yaffe added to only seek testing at an assessment centre if showing virus symptoms, if an individual has received an exposure notification or has been in a setting with a COVID-19 outbreak as identified by local health units.

Ontario reported 538 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Thursday, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 52,248.

Three more deaths were also reported, bringing the provincial death toll to 2,851.
