CA, 18 Sep 2020
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to announce final details on a potential reduction on limits to private gatherings in Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa during a COVID-19 update on Thursday.

Government sources confirmed to Global News the province is looking at reducing gathering limits to 10 people indoors and 25 outdoors for private gatherings in Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa. The new limits do not apply to businesses and are only targeting private gatherings. However, the government is still discussing the issue with its health table to finalize numbers.

Ford will be joined by Health Minister Christine Elliott, Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health.

Health officials reported 293 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, with three new deaths, increasing the total confirmed cases to 45,676 and 2,825 total deaths. Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa accounted for 64 per cent of newly confirmed cases.

Ford announced on Wednesday an interactive screening tool for students, teachers and support staff available on Ontario's government website that can be used to help screen for symptoms of COVID-19.

He said over 500 additional nurses have been hired for schools and are well on its way to its target of 625 nursing positions for schools.
