Coronavirus: Ontario Premier Doug Ford to announce back-to-school plans for September | LIVE

CA, 31 Jul 2020
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to announce plans on Thursday for reopening schools in September amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ford will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education, and Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health.

The announcement comes just six weeks before the back-to-school season and a week before the province’s 72 school boards were initially asked to outline their plans for the academic year.

The province had previously asked school boards to prepare for three scenarios come September: regular in-class instruction with physical-distancing measures in place, full-time remote learning, and a hybrid model blending both approaches.

Ford announced on Wednesday that Toronto and Peel Region would be able to move on to Stage 3 in the province’s reopening plan on Friday, July 31.

Windsor-Essex, the final region in Ontario, will remain in Stage 2.
