Coronavirus: Ontario, Quebec call for more federal healthcare funding in joint summit | FULL
CA, 10 Sep 2020
Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Quebec Premier Francois Legault sent a joint message to the federal government calling for more funding for healthcare for both provinces amid the pandemic.
The premiers called on the federal government to do its part in financing health-care and to increase funding for the Canada Health Transfer.
The calls came during a joint press conference held in Ontario following the two-day annual summit.
"Currently, provinces spend $200 billion on healthcare and the contribution of the federal government is only $42 billion," Legault said.
He also asked Ottawa to provide more funding for infrastructure including transit and collective transportation.
Premier Ford said Ontario and Quebec have been on the front-lines of fighting the pandemic in Canada, asking Ottawa to increase its funding ahead of the throne speech.
