CA, 09 Sep 2020
Ontario Premier Doug Ford, alongside other ministers including Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliott and Education Minister Stephen Lecce, delivered an update on the province's response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Tuesday.
During the press conference, Elliott announced that the province is taking a four-week pause in loosening further coronavirus-related restrictions amid a recent uptick in cases.
“The latest trends in numbers have raised some concern, especially as we begin to reopen schools and post-secondary institutions,” Elliott said.
In addition, Ford announced that the Ontario government is providing $1.3 billion to support schools during COVID-19. The provincial government will also be providing $247 million for schools to hire more staff to help keep children safe, physically and mentally, from the coronavirus.
The province reported 185 new cases on Tuesday, with no new deaths.
