Coronavirus: PM Trudeau addresses Canadians on COVID-19 pandemic | LIVE

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to hold a COVID-19 briefing on Friday to discuss the ongoing government response to the pandemic.

During a COVID-19 update on Tuesday, Trudeau announced that Canada had reached an agreement with Pfizer to buy an additional 20 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccine.

The head of Canada's vaccine rollout, Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin, stated Thursday that the quantity of vaccine doses arriving in Canada is “anticipated to average more than one million doses a week for both currently approved vaccines starting in April.”

Canada added 7,563 coronavirus cases Thursday and 154 deaths as the second detection of the South African variant of the virus was reported in the country. There are now 688,891 cases in total and 17,537 deaths in the country.
