U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to hold a COVID-19 briefing on the country's ongoing response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump spoke about the pandemic on Tuesday in a different tone than in past briefings, reiterating his belief that while he believes the virus would eventually "disappear," he also predicted that it would "get worse before it gets better."

A day after tweeting an image of himself wearing a mask and asking others to do so when they can't properly socially distance, the president reiterated his statement and addressed questions about why he doesn't wear masks or face coverings more often, saying he was "pretty far away" from people at the event. The question was in response to Trump being seen at one of his hotels during a fundraising event in which he was not seen wearing a mask, just hours after the tweet in question.

The United States remained the global epicentre of the virus on Tuesday, with more than 3.8 million confirmed cases.
