Coronavirus: Saskatchewan premier urges adherence to group limits after 21 cases linked to 1 event
CA, 18 Sep 2020
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe on Thursday reported seven new cases of COVID-19 and said that a number of recent cases were linked to one private social gathering held in Saskatoon. He said 21 cases have been traced to the gathering, with more expected to be traced in the coming days.
Chief medical officer of health Dr. Saqib Shahab said the event saw more than 40 people in attendance and shows why when people plan events, like Thanksgiving in October, to think of why you will have a large event, how to space people out and who is being invited.
Moe stressed this recent string of cases is an example of why restrictions remain in the province on the number of people allowed at private gatherings, and why even when kept within the limit, people must ensure physical distancing is adhered to.
The premier also said that measures in place for schools are going well, but that if more cases occur in communities, "that's how the virus will enter our schools."
