Coronavirus: Saskatchewan to remain in current reopening phase despite consistently low numbers
CA, 03 Sep 2020
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and chief medical officer of health Dr. Saqib Shahab provided an update Wednesday on the province's response to COVID-19, with students set to return to school the week of Sept. 7.
Shahab said that teachers would have priority access to COVID-19 testing as the school year begins, but it is still important for parents to keep their children at home if ill so as to help continue to contain the spread of the disease.
Moe announced that the province was still working out a release date, but they would be moving forward with having the COVID Alert app useable in Saskatchewan. Currently, Ontario is the only province using the app, but the plan by the federal government was to roll the app out across the country.
Both Moe and Shahab were asked about the moving into the next phase of reopening for the province as they had been in the current one for some time, but Moe said despite the consistent low numbers, they are not looking to implement stage five.
Moe and Shahab also stressed, with back-to-school days away, that people are still advised against non-essential travel so as to prevent the possibility of bringing COVID-19 into the province from jurisdictions that may be seeing higher numbers than Saskatchewan. The province reported just two new cases on Wednesday.
