Coronavirus: Tokyo 2020 organizing committee says Olympic Games will be "safe and secure"
CA, 17 Jul 2020
Yoshirō Mori, president of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee, said Friday that the competition schedule for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics has been approved and assured Olympic athletes that while they should be “mindful of the COVID-19 infection,” the games will be “safe and secure.”
Toshirō Mutō, CEO of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee, added that, as they continue to plan for the games, which have now been delayed until 2021, a meeting is being planned that will bring together members of the Japanese government, the Tokyo metropolitan government and the Tokyo 2020 planning committee to decide on COVID-19 counter-measures.
Mori said Friday that the group is not planning for the event to be a “joyous occasion of celebration,” but rather “a moment of pledge to say that we will be united in delivering the games.”
